The National Disability Caregivers Conference by Caring Futures is a FREE, two-day virtual event designed to support caregivers of a family member with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Co‑presented by The Arc of California and Caring Across Generations, this empowering national event brings together parents, caregivers, advocates, and professionals to learn, connect, and strengthen communities where every person is valued.
Through expert-led sessions, discussions, and practical resources, caregivers will gain vital tools on topics like housing, employment, public benefits, future planning, mental health, advocacy, estate planning and person-centered support. Whether you’re navigating services for a child, adult, or aging family member, this conference provides the knowledge, inspiration, and connections you need to thrive—because when caregivers are supported, everyone benefits.
Day 1 Opening Remarks: Kate Swenson ~ “Finding Connection Through the Caregiving Journey.”
Kate Swenson is an author, speaker, mother of four and creator of Finding Cooper’s Voice, an online community inspired by her son Cooper, who has autism. Author of Forever Boy and co-author of Autism Out Loud, Kate shares her family’s journey with honesty and humor, helping caregivers feel seen, understood and less alone while exploring the powerful role connection, community and joy can play throughout the caregiving journey.
Day 2 Opening Remarks: Amanda Griffith-Atkins ~“Caring for Yourself When It’s More Than You Can Handle.”
Amanda Griffith-Atkins is a licensed marriage and family therapist, author, speaker and mother to a child with a rare disability. Founder of Amanda Atkins Counseling Group and author of How to Handle More Than You Can Handle, Amanda brings both lived experience and clinical expertise to honest conversations about caregiving, burnout and mental health, helping caregivers feel understood, less alone and more connected to themselves while navigating the emotional complexities of caregiving.
